ADHD Write for us
ADHD is often seen as difficulty focusing, not sitting still, and self-control. For many people, “Everyone has those symptoms,” which is a misconception. It is a brain disorder that has long-term difficulties characterized by a lack of attention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. Such symptoms often become a serious problem, limiting a person’s life, relationships, academic performance, and career choices (particularly military or other high-profile jobs) if left unaddressed. It could be the shape of missed deadlines, forgotten steps, wiggly energy, or zoning out. However, with intervention, it can also bring deep focus, original insight, and emotional awareness.
At GABA Telepsychiatry, we understand ADHD is a developmental impairment of the brain’s executive functions. It is not a learning disability, ‘personality flaw’, ‘parenting fault ’, or ‘defective brain’. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder, which is characterized by an imbalance in neurotransmitters such as dopamine and norepinephrine, which occurs in both children, young people, and adults, leading to huge impacts on their personal and professional lives.
Therefore, whether you are a person living with ADHD, a caregiver of people with ADHD (i.e., parent, teacher, friend, spouse, sibling, fellow mate, or a coach), a mental health professional, or a medical specialist, we welcome you to write for us. Misinterpretation and stigma associated with mental health issues like ADHD are potential causes of both incorrect diagnosis and unaddressed conditions. Your stories can help people understand what the real condition is. For example, parents’ and professionals’ insights can help unfold how ADHD affects learning experiences or basic activities, whereas insights from professionals (e.g., teachers, military personnel, scientists, celebrities, or others) can help reflect on how ADHD impacts career paths and management tips.
ADHD is an ongoing learning process with high energy on one day, followed by no motivation to do anything on other days. Many people with ADHD are comorbid with other mental problems like depression, fear, and other disorders like autism, etc.
